Maria y el Sol To Bring Heat To Gumball
May 01, 2007 - Daily Journal
If you're the kind of person who likes to dance all night, the GumTree Museum of Art has a party for you. The 2007 Cellular South Gumball features a mixture of food, art, music and dancing, and it serves as the kick-off for the GumTree Festival of the Arts. "It's a casual night," said Gabrielle Cooper, Gumball chairwoman. "We'll have the band playing outside."
Maria y el Sol, an Oxford band that specializes in Latin and worldbeat music, will provide the tunes. "Our theme this year is The Heat is on in Mississippi,'" Cooper said. Inside, the museum will feature the artwork of high school students, and designer Tracy Proctor will add his personal touch to the look of the place.
Park Heights and The Fairpark Grill will provide the food for the night, and there will be a cash bar.
A silent auction will start at 7 p.m., and it'll feature work from many of the GumTree artists, so you get a chance to preview the festival and maybe beat somebody else to the pieces you want. Some of the artists will attend, and Rick Anderson, 2007 festival poster artist, will be on hand to sign copies of his creation.
The music and dancing will last from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, and as you hold your sweetie close, be secure in the knowledge that all of the fun supports a good cause.
"It's a fundraiser for the GumTree Museum," Cooper said, "and it's really a great way to start GumTree weekend."
